A Mother's Day Message

The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center Happy Mother’s Day

Good morning…

I have been working hard to ensure Mother’s Day cards are in the mail to arrive at their destination on time. I have been doing “a little shopping” to ensure that the mom’s close to me receive an expression of my gratitude and love for them.

But I have also been thinking about the last twelve months, and all that mothers across our community have been doing to “keep things moving” in the midst of the pandemic. Mothering. Teaching. Working. Encouraging. Empowering. Loving. My dissertation study considered the role of mothers. The meaning of the mother role. The meaning of role confusion for mothers. The meaning of role diffusion for mothers. Treating with dignity and respect those in the role of a mother. The Coronavirus has made my thinking about mothers, and concepts about and experiences for mothers over the last twelve months even more emotional, and important.

All of this intentional thinking about mothers is of even greater significance for our campus, The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, and the Guests we have the privilege of serving. Our space reflects a sensitivity to safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment which helps us to facilitate change. We are challenging our staff to lean into our mission of empowering our mothers through offering that uplifting look, that word of hope, a nod of compassion to a Guest over the next few days.

To all the mothers (Guests, staff, donors, volunteers, advocates) across our campus, enjoy the day, enjoy the family, and be well.

Happy Mother’s Day!

With enthusiasm… Dr. David Woody
